News : Delayed results put engineers' jobs at stake

. Saturday 30 April 2011

JAIPUR: Around 1,000 engineering students of 2010 who reappeared in one or more subjects (backlog) of previous semesters are still awaiting their final results. A few of them are on verge of losing their jobs as they have failed to submit their final year result to their companies. The Rajasthan Technical University (RTU) had made tall claims of delivering result within three months of the exam on cellphone.

The university announced the result in four months but the final results of students, who appeared to clear their backlog, were not declared. Almost a year has passed but results have not been announced. Many students were disqualified after final selection for interviews in MNCs like Wipro, Capgemini, Accenture and TCS.

Rishikesh Mehta (name changed), with an IT firm in Bangalore was given an ultimatum to submit his final year marksheet by April 30. He took a week's off and landed in Kota three days ago. Since then, he has been trying to get his marksheet but has failed to get any response from the university.

"They don't reply on helpline numbers. They say it will come in five days and when we ask them after 25 days they say evaluation has not started," a student said.

The university management has denied charges of negligence and say lack of evaluators caused the delay. University official confirmed that due to only a few examinees they have outsourced result preparation and its publication. R P Yadav, vice-chancellor of RTU assured TOI of announcing the results in a week. He said, "This delay is because of the private agency hired before my tenure for compiling results." He said they have hired a new agency to speed up the process.

But students said the RTU lacked transparency. There is no coordination between the university and engineering colleges. On several occasions they have changed the examination date, said the aggrieved students.

Saurabh Barmecha, an engineering student appearing for the third semester exam is still awaiting the second semester result. "If I score less in any subject in second and third semester, I will have to reappear in the fourth semester exams," added Barmecha.
