Multiple Resumes

. Monday 25 April 2011

Gone are the days when people create a resume and apply to all the jobs with that same resume. Today if you want different and quick results you need to do something different in your process of job hunting. These days having multiple resumes for multiple job profiles is becoming a trend, the reason is simple that you cannot apply for the job of a goldsmith if you have woodcutter written in your resume (just for example). Now you must be thinking that why do we need multiple resumes if we are to apply for the jobs in the same field; and the answer to that is today there are a lot more career options than before. Also if you want to have opportunities of a broader range then you need to write multiple resumes.

Follow these guidelines to create multiple resumes for different job profiles:

  • Create a main resume with all the skill sets and experience that you have. Write it as a normal resume but never use it to apply it for any job.
  • Now for every different job profile you want to apply for, create a separate sub-resume from that main resume that you earlier created.
  • Remove all the skill sets that are not relevant to the details in the job description; this also includes removing any relevant projects, internships, trainings and working experience. The reason for that is simple, everything in your resume either increase or decrease its value, remove the ones that are not adding up anything to the value.
  • Follow this process for every other job that you apply for and keep creating alternate resumes.
  • It is also important not to show yourselves overqualified for any temporary job that you would like to do until you find yourself the job of your interest.
  • Try to match your resume with the job description, it may be time consuming but its worth the effort.
  • Never give false information about you or your skills in an attempt to match yourself with the job profile, its better not to apply for the job of which you don’t have enough knowledge.

This process will surely help you landing on a job faster than usual and will give you an edge over other job seekers.

Good luck with your job hunting.
